The record and the conditions pages
Reading the site requires no account and no sign-up. The incident record is compiled from public agency releases and news reports; each entry links to its sources.
The site uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read and how people find us. It uses cookies and records things like your approximate location (city level), device and browser. It does not give us your name or email address. You can block it with most browsers' privacy settings or the Google Analytics opt-out.
The Thursday briefing
If you subscribe, we store your email address, when you signed up and confirmed, and which page you signed up from. We use it only to send the briefing (and, if you later choose them, alerts you ask for). We don't sell or share it. Subscriptions are confirmed by email before anything is sent, and every email has a one-click unsubscribe link.
Email is sent through Amazon Web Services. If a message bounces or is marked as spam, that address is automatically excluded from future sends.
